(Davidson County Courthouse)
Lexington, North Carolina is a furniture and textile center also known for its famous "Lexington Style" barbecue. Located in the heart of the Piedmont, it is 21 miles south of Winston Salem and 32 miles west of Greensboro in one of the most beautiful counties in the state.
The nearest commercial airport in the area is the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro…30 minutes, 25 miles.
The county's largest lake, High Rock Lake fed by the Yadkin River, features 365 miles of shoreline dotted with homes and cottages. Indian artifacts can still be found along its banks. In the past few years, the 15,000-acre lake often has been the site of the BASS Master's Classic, the world's most prestigious fishing tournament.
Barbecue - The North Carolina Legislature has designated Lexington as "The Hickory Smoked Barbecue Capital of North Carolina." Barbecue's beginnings in the area actually occurred in the county during church homecomings and public rallies, yet it was brought into Lexington's square when court was in session in order to bring in larger crowds.
Barbecue Festival - The Festival is held in Uptown Lexington. An eight block stretch of Main Street is closed to traffic, with banners at either end announcing the Festival with a logo featuring four dancing pigs. Over four hundred exhibitors sell everything from handmade crafts to homemade fudge. Five stages of entertainment showcase local and national artists. The festival is for people of all ages and includes a special section of rides and games for children, Piglet Land. Barbecue is served out of three main tents, two at the square and another at the north end of the Festival near Piglet Land.
