Population: 7,743 New Hope is surrounded by Solebury Township on three sides and on the east by the Delaware River. Solebury Township, by contrast to the one square mile of New Hope, contains an area of 14,073 acres or 28 square miles.

It is believed that the name comes from the village of Soulbury in Buckinghamshire, England. The Paxon family, among the first and most influential settlers of the area, came from that village in England and it is believed that they were responsible for the naming of the Township.

Some of the interesting and historic places in Solebury are a one room schoolhouse built in 1864, the gardens of Lenteboden (a beautiful place to visit in the spring), the hamlet of Philips Mill - named for the grist mill built in 1756 and operated by four generations of the Phillips family, the Rosade Bonsai Studio - founded in 1970 it is the studio of nationally known bonsai teacher and lecturer, F. Chase Rosade, the Bucks County Conservancy- today the Heritage Conservancy which was incorporated in 1958, the Honey Hollow Watershed which has been declared a National Historic Landmark, the Aquetong Spring which is one of the most productive of its kind on the east coast and Rice's Market where each Tuesday you will find crowds flocking to this farmers market and flea market.

The Township has over the years been the home of many nationally known members of the literary and theatrical worlds. It was the combination of seclusion and proximity to New York and Philadelphia that attracted such luminaries as Moss Hart, Sam and Bella Spewack, Paul Bowles and Sheldon Cheney, among many others.

A visit to Solebury will take you back in time and fill you with wonderful historic memories. If you want the adventure of feeling lost in time come and drive through the country roads along the Cuttalossa Creek. There's a little bit of something for everyone in Solebury.
