Center County Chamber-Commerce State College is an example of the quintessential college town, playing host to the beautiful Penn State University campus. Needless to say, PSU is the foundation of State College, helping to attract a large number of tourists to the area, and also providing local residents with a major cultural and entertainment center. Several arts museums, such as the Steidle Museum and Art Gallery and the Palmer Museum of Art, will entice lovers of the visual arts, while the Bryce Jordan Center is a multi-faceted sports complex that is also home to the Nittany Lions' basketball team. This area of Pennsylvania is steeped in Amish heritage. Residents and visitors alike love the craft and antique shops in towns like Boalsburg, Centre Hall and Lemont. Some stores feature works by local artists and craftspeople. A drive down Route 192 through Madisonburg and Rebersburg will provide a scenic visit to the past, as Amish farms.
State College is strategically located near the center of the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania and is just 12 miles south of I-80. US 322 and newly developing I-99 and several state highways service the city itself. State College is 90 minutes from the state capital of Harrisburg, and just under 3 hours from Pittsburgh. |
