Well known as a station for the Underground Railroad during the Civil War and its role in the development and progress of the Delaware River region, today's Yardley is made up of a carefully restored historic district surrounded by new residential developments, modern conveniences, and state-of-the-art industrial and business complexes.
Yardley's well-maintained and restored 19th century homes and structures are situated in "Elm Street" neighborhoods, all within walking distance to the picturesque downtown area. Lake Afton, in the center of town, offers fishing when it's warm and ice skating when it's not. A Grist Mill built in 1769 has been lovingly restored and houses several unique shops. An historic towpath along the Delaware Canal features trails for biking and hiking while the canal itself offers canoeing and tubing.
