Eat. Sleep. Fish. It’s Aransas Pass…Saltwater Heaven

Aransas Pass offers unique crystal clear waters full of lush seagrass and the best bay fishing in the state of Texas. Many professional fishing guides, top-notch kayak facilities, steady breezes for sailing, numerous bird watching areas, and an aquatic center add to the attractions. With a heritage in shrimping that runs deep, Aransas Pass is the ‘Shrimp Capitol of Texas’, celebrating that heritage each year with the Shrimporee, a festival held over three days during the first weekend of June.

Aransas Pass residents enjoy fine weather all year since winter doesn’t actually arrive on the coast until late December and spring begins as early as February! Now that’s what we call a “South Texas winter”!

Whether you are in a boat, in a kayak, on a pier, or along the banks, we have guides waiting to share an experience with you! Just name your preference: in-shore, offshore, live bait, artificial or fly fishing. Or take in the “hot spots” on your own with a good map and helpful tips from some of the local fishermen. There are many marinas and boat launches available, with the largest being located at the historic Conn Brown Harbor. Our shallow bay systems, home to so much marine life, offer a variety of fish including the elusive “tailing” redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead, black drum and ladyfish.

If it is seafood you want, we have many retail seafood markets that carry fresh shrimp, crabs and even fish, just in case you missed the big one! For some, fishing means a visit to local restaurants and allowing them to prepare one of their specialties as they kick-back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Nearly 500 species of birds can be found at one time or another traveling through Aransas Pass. Stop by our Visitors Center at 130 W. Goodnight to pick up a birding checklist then visit one or all 4 of our birding sites on the Great Texas Birding Trail. A local favorite is Newbury Park, home to the largest hummingbird garden in Texas! Not only do the hummers love it, but so do the many migrating butterflies.

Visit the Lighthouse Lakes Park, located off the Redfish Bay Causeway, for picnicking or launching your kayak to access the largest stand of black mangroves located this far north on the coast and about 700 acres of water living trees that are home to many waterfowl and migrating guests. Our newest attraction is the Aquatic Center, located in the Aransas Pass Community Park on Johnson Avenue, and offering year-round swimming with 2 heated pools, 3 water slides and a kiddie pool complex. Other attractions within the Community Park include 2 playgrounds, a covered pavilion, 5 baseball fields, and a nature boardwalk for bird viewing amongst ponds on Redfish Bay.
