One of the best benefits of life in this region is the natural alliance with the great outdoors. Parks, hiking/biking trails, nature areas and water resources permeate the lifestyles of most Humble area residents. Situated on Lake Houston, the area boasts one of the finest fishing and recreational regions in Texas, offering excellent camping, boating, skiing and fishing facilities. Most area subdivisions feature their own parks and swimming pools, and youth sports programs are hugely supported. Rounding out the recreational offerings is an outstanding array of local golf courses including world-class tournament courses, challenging professional courses, executive three-pars, a golf instructional school, youth programs, driving ranges, and night golfing.

Combine all of this with the year-round temperate climate, and the area becomes a recreational utopia. To top it all off, Harris County offers several unique parks to entice area residents.

Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens is a nationally recognized public garden showcasing the Gulf Coast region’s largest collection of native and cultivated plans in over 250 acres of east Texas piney woods. Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center offers Harris County residents one of the south’s finest facilities for nature education and passive recreation. Natural beauty and history are combined in this 225-acre park located along the banks of Spring Creek. Explore diverse ecosystems including ancient cypress bogs, natural white sand beaches and wildflower patches. Five miles of all-weather natural trails and boardwalks are wheelchair and stroller accessible. The center features a variety of displays and exhibits, including a collection of live and taxidermic native wildlife.

Fishing is permitted in Spring Creek, which borders the park for about 3/4 of a mile. Most fishing is done during the late winter months when the white bass run from Lake Houston. Point-to-point canoeing is also permitted in the creek with advanced reservations.
