League City is located in Galveston County

Population: 45,444

Located in southeastern Texas, League City is twenty-five miles north of Galveston and twenty miles south of Houston, the 4th largest metropolitan city in the United States, and is directly across Clear Lake from NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The city is conveniently located 14 - 16 miles from the shipping, industrial and petrochemical complexes located along the Houston Ship Channel and approximately 8 - 10 miles from the petrochemical refineries and shipping ports in the Texas City and Bayport areas. League City is in the Central Time Zone.

Key demographic measures attest to the economic strength of the region. The Clear Lake area’s population reflects comparable or superior characteristics for the measures of population growth, educational attainment and household income when compared with major U.S. suburban and metropolitan areas. Although part of the Houston economy, League City distinguishes itself within the region demographically. Its employment base, income level and education profiles are well above the average for the Houston metro area. In recent years, the region led the economic recovery, not so much by size as by rate of growth and optimism. Ninety percent of League City residents rate the overall quality of life as good or excellent. The combinations of things that, together, create a desirable lifestyle for a community are quite varied, and yet, most citizens speak to the city’s "quality of life" as if it were commonly identifiable. These same residents cite the suburban lifestyle, economic opportunities, schools and other recreational and cultural amenities as reasons for their strong approval.

League City is proud to be home of the nationally acclaimed Clear Creek Independent School District, which is consistently rated among the top ten school districts in the state. League City residents are clearly education driven with 64% reporting varying levels of college education up to and including graduate and professional degrees. With a student population of over 28,205, Clear Creek I.S.D. reports that approximately 78 - 80% of their graduates enter college.

Stephen F. Austin first settled the League City area in 1825, but it wasn’t until 1893 that J.C. League founded the city. Rich native grasses grew in abundance on these coastal lands bordering Clear Creek and Clear Lake and provided an ideal climate for the city’s early economy of ranching and farming. In 1907, J.C. League had two flatcars full of live oak trees brought to the city and planted in League Park and along Main Street. Now these nearly 100-year-old oaks provide a picturesque setting within the city’s lively Historic District. League City has two county parks included in the Great Texas Birding Trail, the county’s top library, a multi-use Sportsplex, major marinas, a championship golf course and resort hotel, as well as lots of room for growth.
