McKinney has been one of the fastest growing cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex during the 1990s. McKinney’s estimated population of approximately 44,000 in 1999 represents more than a 100% increase in residents since the 1990 Census population of 21,283. The number of Planning-related applications reviewed by the Planning Division has increased dramatically during these growth years, from approximately 50 cases in 1990, to 274 cases in 1998.
McKinney boasts a plethora of residential housing for new residents to choose from, ranging in price from under $150,000 to over $1 million. Homes of various ages and styles are available in McKinney's registered historic district. Many are already restored while others will present interesting projects for historical restoration enthusiasts.
Several attractive apartment complexes are available in McKinney with others under construction. Housing designated especially for senior citizens is available, which includes retirement villages, and assisted living facilities.
