(The nearby Wasatch Range provides some of the best skiing in the country)
Alpine is located just 23 miles from Salt Lake City, and, as its name implies, the area is home to great skiing. In its earliest years, Alpine was largely a livestock and farming community, though by the mid-1900's this once great industry had only run-down farms and houses as artifacts of its past greatness. However, after a "Clean Up, Paint Up, Fix Up Campaign" was implemented by Lady Bird Johnson in 1965, the entire community became involved in the beautification project. This project would lead to more, including the purchase of trees and shrubs to establish a park on the center block of Alpine. The initiative to improve Alpine has helped in the prevention of slums and the rehabilitation of blighted areas. It has improved health and safety standards, taught juvenile decency and helped in fire prevention. It has helped to make the City of Alpine a more perfect place to live.
Alpine is indeed a charming town that possesses a unique and friendly atmosphere. This close-knit community of residents enjoys its natural and peaceful setting near the foot of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Just to the northeast of town is Wordsworth Canyon, a lasting tribute to William Shin Wordsworth, the leader in founding Alpine in 1850.
Every year a special event is held in Alpine. Appropriately called "Alpine Days", this gathering of the community celebrates the town's rich history, but also its unique character. Various games and product booths showcase the people of Alpine at their very best.
Alpine is within a quick drive of Salt Lake City and the Great Salt Lake. In addition to the Wasatch Range, there are several forests and state parks in the surrounding areas.
