When Holladay was incorporated on November 30, 1999 Holladay residents indicated that they wanted to see the following happening in their newly formed city:

To make the central Holladay business area more pedestrian friendly
To require large parking areas to include landscaping
To preserve and increase trees and other vegetation
To curtail downsizing of building lots
To create biking and walking trails through the community
To develop more parks and open spaces

The Holladay City News of December 2000 reports that the first project incorporating some of the above goals has been started. According to the article the City of Holladay is delighted to announce that the parking lot in front of the city office building will be turned into a park-like plaza with trees and other landscaping, benches , a modest fountain and two drinking fountains. The project is seen as a model for development throughout the city. Construction will be started soon with completion anticipated for June. There will be no borrowing for the project but contributions and donations are welcome.
