Burke was once a quiet farming community but Burke has grown rapidly since 1976 when Fairfax County approved an 1,4000-acre planned community called Burke Center. In the Burke area a diversity of housing styles and prices can be found, from single family hones in one of Burke Center's planned neighborhoods to large estate homes on 5-acre parcels in the Burke Lake Park area; from townhouses to rental apartments in quiet park-like settings.
Because of its easy access to major commuter roads as well as the Virginia Railway Express (there is a station at Burke Center), this area is a favorable location for commuters to D.C. There is excellent shopping at Burke Center and two regional malls nearby.
Suburban life in Burke is rich with opportunities for recreation and leisure time - there are 21 parks and 14 playgrounds and community pools. One park, Burke lake Park, provides almost 900 acres for camping, fishing, boating and golf as well as the attraction of a miniature train, carousel, and ice-cream parlor, nature trails and more!
