Gainesville Relocation Guide

Gainesville is located in Prince William County

Population: 4,382

Gainesville, Virginia is located approximately 35 miles west of Washington D.C., and 25 miles from Dulles International Airport, near the intersection of I-66 and Lee Highway (Route 29). Residents enjoy direct access to the Capital Beltway making the area an attractive housing alternative for those employed in and around Washington D.C. In fact, the region is now one of the nation's fastest growing, most dynamic new homebuilding markets!

Rich in history, western Prince William County is just a few miles west of Manassas Battlefield Park, site of the Civil War's first battle. Originally located at the junction of the Manassas Gap Railroad and the Fauquier-Alexandria Turnpike, Gainesville was a changing point for stagecoach horses and is named after Thomas Gaines, the town's first postmaster.

In the 1940's, Gainesville was merely a gas station, a few houses and stores. Through the 1970's, it was a metal manufacturing center and a cattle shipping hub. In the 1980's and 1990's, Centreville, Virginia was known as the Interstate corridor's new home market value. Today, urban sprawl has turned several miles westward to Gainesville, Haymarket and Bristow. These "boom towns" are bustling with new businesses, housing developments, gas stations and restaurants.

Home to thousands of new residents and an impressive array of current and projected housing developments, Gainesville, now competes with America's second strongest new home market, Loudoun County's Ashburn and Leesburg.

Gainesville is generally more affordable, making it a welcome relief for those searching for reasonably priced housing opportunities. New home communities make the region a favorite with families seeking planned urban developments flush with sporting facilities.
