Yorktown Victory Center

Founded in 1691, this busy 18th century tobacco port, became very famous for the The Battle of Yorktown, where Gen. Washington defeated the British forces and victoriously ended the American Revolutionary War. But less than 100 years later it was the sight of another great conflict when Gen. McClellan landed Union forces here in 1862 and launched the Peninsular Campaign.

Yorktown is located near the colonial town of Williamsburg and encompasses several of this country's most historically important sites. A few of the most notable attractions are the Yorktown Victory Center, a museum that chronicles major events and home life during the American Revolution, the Swan Tavern Group, and Watermen's Museum, documenting the watermen of Chesapeake Bay. Maritime exhibits include ship models, paintings, dioramas, photographs, and tools.
