Centralia is located in Lewis County

Population: 14,742 Centralia is a friendly, historic city located on I-5 midway between Seattle and Portland, just one mile east of the freeway. Most of the buildings in the area were built in the late 1800's with the gold rush, although some “upstarts” are only 100 years old, being built in the early 1900’s.

The new viewing area, Johnson Ridge, built by the U.S. Forest Service allows the visitor to view the mountain. Trails allow one to see how nature is taking back the bleak landscape from the devastation of the volcano, which blew the top off of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.
