Chehalis is a satellite town that people who work in Centralia go home to. It has so much to offer those who choose to live there, a new power station is to be built there, which will increase the number of job opportunities in this small, sleepy town.
Both Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens are not far from Chehalis. Mt. St. Helens is approximately one hour south of Chehalis. Life will never be the same after May 18th 1980, when the active volcano erupted, leaving a large trail and pool of lava.
Today bits of green thrusting through the deep ash covering are encouraging birds and animals to return. The new viewing area, Johnson Ridge, built by the U.S. Forest Service allows the visitor to view the mountain. Trails allow one to see how nature is taking back the bleak landscape from the devastation of the volcano, which blew the top off of Mt. St. Helens in 1980.
Housing in Chehalis is comparable to other small towns in the state of Washington — Chehalis is very centrally located between two major metropolitan areas, which makes it an extremely desirable place to call home.
If you enjoy the great outdoors than you are certainly looking to live in the right place! Salmon fishing in the cold, fresh streams around Chehalis, or hunting in the mountains, or perhaps taking a trail walk, ride or climb through the mountains are just some the pleasures that await you in Chehalis. There are golf courses aplenty as well, if chasing a ball across lush green grass is more your game!
Chehalis has planted their feet firmly in the future, building a power plant here may be the best fiscal decision this town has made; it will certainly add life to this little town. Come and see why Chehalis is fast becoming a place to be reckoned with!
