Hazel Dell is located within the greater Vancouver, Washington area. Because of its location, Hazel Dell is situated where the Pacific Coast is less than 90 miles to the west, the Cascade Mountain Range rises on the east, and Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and Mt. Hood are less than two hours away.
Hazel Dell enjoys mild weather and experiences less annual rainfall than Boston, Washington, D.C. or Atlanta. There are many regional parks near the city of Hazel Dell and Vancouver Lake Park is a prime example of one of these parks. This park is located on west shore of Vancouver Lake. The 234-acre park stretches for 2.5 miles along the lake, with thirty-five developed acres. Enjoying picnicking, play equipment, windsurfing, and sand volleyball number among the activities concentrated in the central section of the park.
Vancouver Lake is the site of many college and professional rowing (sculling) competitions during the year. The lake is great for beginning windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing. There are views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens. The park is also a wetlands haven for wildlife and migratory waterfowl.
Clark College, located in Clark County, was founded as a private, two-year junior college in 1933 and was granted initial accreditation in 1936-37 based upon a visit by a committee of five professors from the University of Washington. The college received accreditation for the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges in 1948 and has maintained that standing through periodic reviews to the present.
