Washington State University began offering courses in Southwest Washington in 1983 as part of the Southwest Washington Joint Center for Education. In 1989, the University formally established Washington State University Vancouver as a branch campus of the state's land-grant institution. The Salmon Creek campus opened in 1996. WSU Vancouver is located on 351 beautiful acres and provides upper-division and graduate education to place-bound residents of Southwest Washington and Oregon.

The Legacy Health System has also broke ground on May 21, 2003, for the first phase of construction of its medical complex in Clark County, Washington. Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital, two four-story medical office buildings and a 1,500-car parking structure are being built on a 24-acre site.

 

Salmon Creek Park/Klineline Pond is a very popular place to swim, with bathhouse, roped swimming areas, observation platforms, and concessions during the summer months. The park is a "greenspace", a clear spring-fed lake with sandy beach, and lawn areas for informal picnicking or sunbathing. A large, non-reservable group shelter is also on site. This park is the starting point for the Salmon Creek Greenway and Salmon Creek Trail and also backs up to the Salmon Creek Sports Association Complex, home of Vancouver Girls Softball.
