When you crest Ridgetop Hill headed west on a crisp Washington afternoon, the breathtaking view of the snow capped Olympic Mountain range can make you forget that just down the hill lies the economic center of one of the most vital counties in Washington State. Silverdale enjoys the successful integration of home-town spirit and vibrant economic development, creating a community that is indeed the heartbeat of Kitsap County. The charm of lush green pastures, rustic barns and livestock reminds visitors of Silverdale's origins in agriculture. An earnest dedication to stewardship of the environment affords unsurpassed views of the Olympic Range to the West, the Cascades to the East and one of Washington's volcanoes, Mount Rainier. The waters of Puget Sound bring returning salmon and the occasional Orca into Dyes Inlet each season.
Silverdale's unique location on the Kitsap Peninsula affords residents the opportunity to escape the bustle of the "big city" without being so far away as to miss the amenities. The major metropolitan areas of Tacoma and Seattle are both within easy driving distance or a relaxing ferry ride away.
Once the area's busiest ferry business, Silverdale is now the area's busiest progressive boom town. Attributing to this torrent of growth is the Navy's Submarine Base, Bangor, where a number of the employees reside in Silverdale, along with many who work at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, being just a quick ferry ride away.
The name Silverdale is synonymous with bustling economic conditions, entrepreneurial spirit, dynamic change and evolution in the fabric of the Kitsap county economic picture. Commerce in many forms calls Silverdale home; small and mid-sized businesses, retailers and professionals, nationally recognized corporations, home-based businesses, healthcare and the military. A strong relationship between the Silverdale community and the Navy, with its Trident Submarine base, was recently recognized when service members from around the world selected Naval Submarine Base Bangor as the "Best Base in the Navy". The award cited the superior level in quality of life, community spirit and support for service members and their families as the determining factors.
While Silverdale still features that natural Northwest beauty of snow-capped mountain ranges, tall evergreens, and crystal clear waters offering endless recreational opportunities, the city also offers modern amenities, including having the largest shopping mall west of Puget Sound.
The ever important weather:
Silverdale enjoys a relatively moderate climate due to its proximity to Puget Sound. The Olympic Mountain Range provides a buffer from the stronger weather systems coming off the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures are mild throughout the year with high temperatures averaging in the 70's during the summer and 40's in the winter. Winters are mild and often go by without a major freeze or snow fall.
Located off Highway 3, on the north end of Dyes Inlet, Silverdale features a great quality of life for both young and old, working or retired, singles and families alike. This community has something for everyone. You too can be one of the many who are proud to call Silverdale home.
