Just east of Puyallup is the town of Sumner, dating from 1883 and noteworthy as the "rhubarb pie capital" of the United States.  Visitors stop in Sumner to attend a play at the Sumner Performing Arts Center, see the lovely floral displays at Windmill Gardens and tour the historic Ryan House, built in 1875.  A summer Farmer's Market is held every Friday in Sumner's downtown park.
