Tacoma residents enjoy the area's prime location and natural beauty. City residents come out in large numbers for Tacoma's many festivals, which take place throughout the year. Tacoma kicks off the new year with its First Night Celebration; spring brings the Daffodil Festival; the Taste of Tacoma is held each summer at Point Defiance Park; and ZooLights takes place in December. In 1998, 1984 and 1956 Tacoma was selected as an "All America City." In 1976, Tacoma celebrated its Bicentennial.

Homes of the region range from waterside contemporary and modern suburban ramblers, starter homes, mansions, in-city condominiums and multifamily housing to faithfully restored Victorians and farm houses. Mountain and salt-water views are common throughout the tree-lined neighborhoods. Tacoma-Pierce County is the second largest metropolitan area in Washington State. It is located in Western Washington on Commencement Bay at the southeast shore of Puget Sound at the mouth of the Puyallup River, west of the Cascade Mountain Range and Mt. Rainier.

Tacoma is 25 minutes from Sea-Tac Airport. The distance from Tacoma to Seattle is 36 miles; to Olympia, 28 miles; to Portland, Oregon, 142 miles; and to Vancouver, British Columbia, 174 miles.
