One of the historic sites of the Victorian era in Eau Claire is Schlegelmilch House. German immigrants Herman and Augusta Schlegelmich built a brick home in downtown Eau Claire about 1871. Their daughter Lousia, added "modern" touches to the house, such as light fixtures that could be run by either gas or electricity, in 1906.

Holiday lights in Eau Claire are on Crescent Avenue to Fanny Hill Inn and Dinner Theatre; Lloyd Avenue near Memorial High School: Lyndale Avenue near Regis High School; Mars Avenue off of Eddy Lane on the North side, and Vine Street. Each year there is a "Grand Illumination". This is the lighting of the downtown's Christmas tree.
